University of Kalyani PhD Admission Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates for admission to the Ph.D. programme shall have a 1-year/2-semester master’s degree programme after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme, Honours with Research, having 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed or a 2- year/4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point Scale of the University (‘B’ grade in the UGC 7-point scale) or an equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.
- A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/DifferentlyAbled and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of theUniversity Grants Commission and State Governmentfrom time to time, or for those who obtained their Master’s degree prior to 19th September, 1991. The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible only on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedure.
- Candidates who have cleared M.Phil. Course Work with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale of the University (‘B’ grade in the UGC 7-point scale) (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and have successfully completed the M.Phil. Degree Course in the University shall be eligible to proceed to do research work leading to the Ph. D. Degree in the University in an integrated programme. A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the UGC and the State Government from time to time.

Selection Process
- The University shall admit PhD. Students through a Research Entrance Test (RET).
- Students/ applicants who have qualified UGC-NET (including JRF)/ UGC-CSIR-NET (including JRF)/ SLET/ SET/ GATE/ ICMR/ ICAR/; full time regular teachers who were appointed before 1991/ M.Phil./ M. Tech/ M.D./ M.E./ M. Pharm or equivalent examination, or have Teacher Fellowship (regular whole-time teachers holding substantive posts)shall be exempted from the written part of the RET and shall be admitted through interview strictly in compliance with the provisions of Regulations.
- Reservation and relaxation as per State Govt. rules.
- The RET will be held through offline mode.
- Student willing to apply for Ph. D. in more than one subject must fill in separate forms for each subject.
- In-Service candidates have to submit No Objection Certificate from their Employer during the time of admission.
- Qualifying marks in Entrance Test (RET) is 50%. A relaxation of 5% marks (from 50% to 45%) shall be allowed for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layers)/ Differently-Abled category in the entrance examination conducted by the University.
