VMOU Kota PhD Programs

Eligibility Criteria for VMOU Kota PhD Admission 2023

• Candidates for admission to the Ph.D. programme shall have a Master’s degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC-7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.
• A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC(non-creamy layer)/Differently-abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time, or for those who had obtained their Master’s degree prior to 19th September, 1991.
• Adhere to the State-level reservation policy, as applicable.

• Candidates can apply online through official website of VMOU Kota. 
• Read instructions carefully before filing application form.

Selection Process

• Admission in PhD shall be based on entrance test and interview.
• An Entrance Test shall be qualifying with qualifying marks as 50%.
• The successful candidate(s) in the Ph.D. Entrance test shall be interviewed.
• The merit shall be prepared for final admission on the basis of written test and interview both. If Interview Committee feels that candidate’s research competence is not up to the mark, then seat may be declared as Not Found Suitable (NFS).
• An interview/viva-voce (30 Marks) will be organized where the candidates are required to discuss their research interest/area through a power point presentation in the proposed research area.

VMOU Kota PhD Entrance Test 2023

• The Ph.D. Entrance/verification will be held at Kota and Jaipur only.
• Time allotted for Ph.D. Entrance Written Test will be TWO Hours.
• An Entrance Test shall be qualifying with qualifying marks as 50%.
• The successful candidate(s) in the Ph.D. Entrance test shall be interviewed.
• Admit card to be downloaded from the University website: www.vmou.ac.in, available about a week before the date of written Examination. Candidates should bring with them a valid original ID.
• Question paper will be bilingual (Hindi and English) except the language paper.
• There will be NO Negative Marking in the written examination.

VMOU Kota PhD Entrance Test 2023 Syllabus

The syllabus of the Entrance Test shall consist of 50% of Research methodology (Research, Language, Computer application & logical reasoning) and 50% shall be subject specific.

Research Methodology (50 Marks)

Syllabus for the Research based Paper. (20 Marks)

• Foundations of Research: Meaning, Objectives, Motivation, Utility. Meaning, purpose, significance of ethical conduct in research, Classification of Research based on its purpose (Basic, Applied, Evaluation and Action Research) Concept of theory, empiricism, deductive and inductive theory. Characteristics of scientific method –Understanding the language of research –Concept, Construct, Definition, Variable. Research Process
• Problem Identification & Formulation – Research Question–Investigation Question– Measurement Issues –Hypothesis –Qualities of a good Hypothesis –Null Hypothesis & Alternative Hypothesis. Hypothesis Testing –Logic & Importance
• Research Design: Concept and Importance in Research –Features of a good research design –Exploratory Research Design –concept, types and uses, Descriptive Research Designs – concept, types and uses. Experimental Design: Concept of Independent & Dependent variables.
• Qualitative & Quantitative Research: Qualitative research – Quantitative research – Concept of measurement, causality, generalization, and replication. Merging the two approaches.
• Measurement: Concept of measurement–what is measured? Problems in measurement in research–Validity & Reliability. Levels of measurement–Nominal, Ordinal, Interval, Ratio.
• Research Strategies: Which Strategy to Choose? Case Studies, Experiments, Ethnography, Phenomenology ,Ground Theory (GT), Action Research , Mixed- methods
• Sampling: Concepts of Statistical Population, Sample, Sampling Frame, Sampling Error, Sample Size, Non Response. Characteristics of a good sample. Probability Sample –Simple Random Sample, Systematic Sample, Stratified Random Sample & Multi-stage sampling. Determining size of the sample –Practical considerations in sampling and sample size.
• Ethical considerations in Research –Layout of a Research Paper, Impact factor of Journals, When and where to publish ? Ethical issues related to publishing and research, Plagiarism and Self-Plagiarism, Application of computer in research.
