About UGC DAE CSR
UGC-DAE Consortium for Scientific Research (UGC-DAE CSR) is one of the premier research institutions in the country. It has advanced research facilities at Indore, Mumbai, Kolkata and Kalpakkam (Tamil Nadu).
The main research areas of the consortium at Indore, Mumbai, Kolkata and Kalpakkam include
Physics at Low Temperatures and High Magnetic Fields, Surfaces/Interfaces, Thin Films and Nano Materials, Neutron scattering studies of materials, X-ray, Optical and Electron Spectroscopic Studies using Synchrotron and Laboratory Sources; Electrical, Magnetic and Thermal Properties of materials; Nano-Biosciences, Nuclear Technique Based Condensed Matter Physics- Positron Annihilation Spectroscopy, Mossbauer Spectroscopy, Experimental Nuclear Physics, Gamma Ray Spectroscopy of Nuclear High Spin States, Nuclear Reactions and Theoretical condensed matter physics.
UGC DAE CSR PhD Program
- Students are admitted to a doctoral research program leading to Ph.D. degree in Physics and Chemistry, Life Sciences and some inter-disciplinary areas.
- On completion of their Ph.D. degree, a number of students could get placements in reputed national institutions and universities as well as abroad.
- The selected students would be registered for Ph.D. with Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV), Indore (for Indore Centre), University of Calcutta or Jadavpur University (for Kolkata Centre), DAVV Indore# or Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) (for Mumbai Centre), and University of Madras (for Kalpakkam node).

Eligibility Criteria for UGC DAE CSR PhD Admission 2023
For Indore, Mumbai and Kalpakkam Node
- M.Sc. degree (2010 or after) in Physics with a minimum of 60% overall marks (55% for reserved and women candidates) and must have either
- Qualified Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST-2023 rank within 300) and/or
- Valid CSIR-UGC NET and/or
- DST-Inspire Fellowship (Ph.D.).
For Kolkata Centre
- For Physics
- M.Sc. degree (2020 or after) in Physics with a minimum of 60% overall marks (55% for reserved and women candidates) and must have either
- Valid CSIR-UGC NET and/or
- Qualified Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST-2023 rank within 300) and/or
- DST-Inspire Fellowship (Ph.D.) and/or
- Valid GATE score in Physics

UGC DAE CSR PhD Admission 2023 Application Process
- Candidates have to apply online through the website https://application.csr.res.in/
- The applicant must indicate the preference of CSR Centres option in the application form.
Selection Process
- The selection of the students for the Ph.D. programme will be a two-step process: Screening of the applications, followed by an online interview of the shortlisted candidates by the Selection Committees.
- The short-listed candidates shall be called for online interview to be conducted tentatively during May or June 2023.
