PhD Management

Candidates for admission to the Ph.D. Programme shall have a Master’s degree in Management and related fields from a UGC recognized University or a degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by Association of Indian Universities (AIU) with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions

PhD Commerce

Candidates for admission to the Ph.D. Programme shall have a Master’s degree in Commerce or Management from a UGC recognized University or a degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by Association of Indian Universities (AIU) with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.

PhD in English/Economics/Mass Communication/Psychology/Social Work/Law

Candidates for admission to the Ph.D. Programme shall have a Master’s degree in the respective discipline from a UGC recognized University or a degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by Association of Indian Universities (AIU) with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions

Note:

• A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer) / Differently- abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the UGC from time to time. The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedures

Steps to Fill Application Form

Candidates applying for Ph.D. programme need to follow the application procedure stated below:

• Step 1: Go to the Ph.D. Programme link on the website www.sxuk.edu.in and register yourself by clicking the “Register” link
• Step 2: Log in to fill the Basic Information Sheet and submit
• Step 3: After submission you will be directed to the payment gateway. Make the payment of application fee INR 2500 and generate an acknowledgement slip and payment receipt.
• Step 4: Download the application form and fill in the details, attaching documents against proof of qualifications, experience, publications etc.
• Step 5: Attach the acknowledgement slip and payment receipt with the filled in application form (with the attachments) and send it to the address: Ph.D. Office, 3rd floor Arrupe Building, St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata Action Area III B, New Town Kolkata-700160. On the cover of the application envelope, indicate ‘Application for Ph.D. Programme (Name of the discipline applied for) 2023’.

Fee Details

The Annual Fees are to be paid in two equal instalments before the commencement of subsequent semester.

• Total Annual Fees: Rs.1,00,000/- 1st & 2nd Instalment of Annual Fees: ₹ 50,000/- for each semester (to be paid before the commencement of each semester)
• Fees to be paid at the time of Admission: 1st Instalment of Annual Fees of Year 1 (₹ 50,000/-) and ₹ 10,000/- (Refundable Security Deposit).

Selection Process

• The candidate will have to appear in the online St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata Research Entrance Test (XU- RET).
• The Research Entrance Test will be followed by an interview on the subject concerned. Candidates who score more than 50% in XURET will be eligible to sit for the Interview.

Exemption Form Entrance Test

Candidates who have qualified in the UGC/ CSIRNET or SET / SLET /GATE or have obtained DSTINSPIRE Fellowship /Teacher fellowship or have passed equivalent examinations or passed the M.Phil./ M. Tech / M.D/ M.E./ M. Pharm or equivalent examination in the subject or allied subject (as approved by DRC) shall be exempted from the written test of St. Xavier’s University Research Entrance Test (XURET) conducted by the University but have to qualify in the interview on the subject to be conducted by the appropriate Department Research Committee (DRC), will be eligible for admission.

St. Xavier’s University Kolkata Research Entrance Test (XU-RET) 2023 Details

• The duration of the XU-RET will be of two hours and will comprise of 50 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) of 2 marks each with a total of 100 marks for all Ph.D. programmes.
• Test will have two sections 50 marks for each.
• The Section-I is on Research Methodology and will test on research orientation, aptitude, research designs, methods and analysis.
• The Section-II will be Discipline specific.
• For Commerce, English, Economics, Mass Communication, Psychology, Social Work and Law Section-II will have 25 questions on different areas of commerce and for Management, there will 5 questions each on General Management, Finance, Marketing, HR, and Systems & Operations.
• The Research Entrance Test will be followed by an interview on the subject concerned. Candidates who score more than 50% in XURET will be eligible to sit for the Interview
