Eligibility Criteria

Master’s degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 60% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade.

Candidates who have cleared the MPhil course work with at least 60 % marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade and successfully completing the M.Phil. Degree shall be eligible to do research work leading to the PhD Degree.

A relaxation of 5% of marks, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/ differently- abled/ migrants of North Eastern states and Jammu & Kashmir.

Admission Process

  • The admission is based on a written entrance examination followed by an interview.
  • Applicants who have qualified national wide examinations, UGC-NET (including JRF)/joint UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF)/ICAR (ASRB)-NET/ICMR JRF/DBT-JRF/NBHM are exempted from entrance examination and will appear directly for interview.

Entrance Test

An Entrance Test shall be qualifying with qualifying marks as 60%.

The syllabus of the Entrance Test shall consist of 50% of research methodology and 50% shall be subject specific.

The Entrance Test shall be conducted at the Centre(s) notified in advance.


An interview/viva-voce to be organized by the DRCC when the candidates are required to discuss their research interest/area through a presentation before the Department Research Coordination Committee.
