Eligibility Criteria for Sambalpur University PhD Admission 2023-24

• A candidate who has obtained a Master’s Degree in the concerned/ allied subject from Sambalpur University or any other University/ Institute recognized by Sambalpur University or such degree obtained from a UGC recognized University/ Institution and foreign Universities recognized by Sambalpur University/ AIU/ UGC/ AICTE etc. may be considered equivalent for this purpose by Sambalpur University with at least 55% marks (or equivalent), shall be eligible for admission into the Ph.D. Programme. The respective Nodal Centre should decide on the allied subject. However, candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ Differently-Abled categories and those who obtained their Master’s Degree before 19th September 1991 shall be given a relaxation of 5% marks at the Master’s Degree level.
• In-service candidates will have to submit a No-objection certificate from their employers, failing which their application will be rejected. A copy of the same will be submitted at the time of Registration. Candidates who are admitted into the Ph.D. programme as unemployed candidates and applying for Registration as in-service candidates will have to submit a no-objection certificate from their employers at the time of registration.

Sambalpur University PhD Admission 2023-24 Application Process

• Visit the University website www.suniv.ac.in for submitting the application online.
• Read instructions given there carefully before filling application form.
• The candidate should deposit Rs.2000/- as processing fee through State Bank Collect(click here to pay online).
• Keep a soft copy of your Passport Size Photograph (Maximum dimension of 300×400 px. and size of 50kB), to upload with the form.
• Go to New Registration link and fill all the required fields (Please remember the details and do not disclose to others.)
• First register your self by clicking on ‘Register to apply Online’ with SB Collect Reference No. (Provided by the Bank) then login to apply
• In case the marks are in Grade convert to equivalent percentage for 10th and +2 and write 1st class / 2nd class / 3rd class.
• After submitting the form successfully, take a print out of the Form, staple attested copies of your photographs along with all relevant documents send it to The Chairman P.G. Council, Sambalpur University, Jyoti Vihar, Burla- 768019, Dist. Sambalpur, Odisha. The envelope must be superscribed as “Application for Ph.D. Admission into Course Subject and Index No._____”. The other copy of the Form should be with the Student.
• Admit card for Entrance/Viva must be downloaded from user login.

Application Fee

Sambalpur University PhD Admission 2023-24 Selection Process

• Candidates, not exempted will have to appear the Entrance Test and will have to secure a minimum of 50% marks in the Entrance Test in order to be eligible for the Viva-Voce Test at the Nodal Centre for the subject concerned.
• The final merit list of the successful candidates shall be prepared by assigning weightage of 70 marks to the candidates past academic career and 30 marks to the Viva-Voce Test.
• The assessment of the candidate in the Viva-Voce shall be primarily based on the candidate’s subject knowledge, research interest and communication skill. A candidate has to secure at least 15 marks out of 30 (i.e., 50%) to qualify the viva-voce examination.

Exemption From Entrance Test

The following categories of candidates shall be exempted from Entrance Test. However they will have to appear the Viva-Voce Test.

• Candidates, who have qualified in UGC/ CSIR NET Examination, GATE, INSPIRE, and such other national level examinations conducted by UGC, ICAR, ICMR, CSIR, ICSSR and other such National Bodies and candidates who are eligible to get a fellowship from national or state level organizations/ institutions.
• Candidates who have passed M.Phil./ M.Tech./ M.D./ M.S. from this University or other University/ Institute recognized by Sambalpur University/ Govt. of India/ UGC, provided that their admission in M.Phil. /M.Tech./ M.D./ M.S. programme has been through an entrance examination and they have undertaken course work as has been prescribed in the regulation with Research Methodology as a paper.
• A candidate who has successfully passed the 1st Semester Course of M. Phil Programme of Sambalpur University with Research Methodology as a paper with a minimum of 6.5 OGPA or 60% marks in aggregate provided that the candidate concerned should have cleared M.Phil. Programme at the time of registration to Ph.D. Programme.
• The candidates covered by University-Institution or University-Industry MoU or Executive Ph.D. being offered by Sambalpur University will be assessed based on interview performance only
