Eligibility Criteria for NIT Puducherry PhD Admission 2024 (Jan) Session
PhD in Engineering
Master’s degree in Technology/Engineering or a Master’s degree by Research (M.S. By Research) in Technology/Engineering disciplines with at least 60% aggregate marks (or) CGPA of 6.5/10 in UG and in PG for admission under OC/OBC category and 55% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA of 6.0 for SC/ST candidates.
OR
Candidates with valid GATE Score and having Bachelor’s degree in Technology/Engineering from CFTI with at least 90% aggregate marks (or) CGPA of 9.5/10 in UG for admission under OC/OBC category and 85% marks or CGPA of 9.0 for SC/ST candidates.
PhD Degree in Physics/ Mathematics/ Chemistry/ English/Economics
Applicant with Master’s degree with First class in Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physics/ Chemistry/Mathematics/ English/Economics in the relevant discipline with at least 60% aggregate marks (CGPA 6.5/10) in UG or in PG for OC/OBC category and 55% marks or CGPA of 6.0 for SC/ST category.
A valid GATE/UGC/CSIR-NET score is mandatory for Institute fellowship.
NIT Puducherry PhD Admission 2024 (Jan) Application Process
Candidates applying for Ph.D. programme can apply only through the online application portal https://nitpyadm.samarth.edu.in/jan24/.
Steps to apply
- Create Login id using a valid email-id and mobile number.
- Enter the login credentials and complete the personal profile.
- After completing the personal profile, apply for the intended program and make the payment through the portal.

Selection Process for NIT Puducherry PhD Admission 2024 (Jan) Session
Candidates have to submit a research proposal along with the application form.
The shortlisted candidates will be screened by written test and interview by the Departmental Selection Committee.
Financial Assistance
Limited number of research fellowships is available to full time research scholars who are not receiving any financial support/scholarship from State/Central Governments (or) other agencies.
They are required to assist the Department in the academic work for at least 8 hours per week as per guidelines issued by the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India, in addition to satisfying other conditions for the award of the fellowship.
However, those who are awarded UGC/CSIR/NBHM/NET/JEST may utilize the Doctoral Fellowships once admitted to the Ph.D. programme.
