NIA Jaipur PhD Programs
Joint Degree Programme (JDP) or Dual Degree Programme
Joint PhD Degree Programme (JDP), means a cotutelle programme of research and training carried out by a PhD candidate who is concurrently enrolled in and jointly supervised by a supervisor, at both institutions. On the successful completion of the degree, two separate degree certificates (testamurs) may be issued by the institution as per their respective form and format of the degree certificate title, description, signatories etc., including a grade or mark (if that is the practice at either institution) but it must carry a clear statement that the degree is awarded under the JDP between the participating institutes. Academic records/transcripts will reflect enrolment in the joint programme.
NIA and AcSIR have entered into an MoU for a joint PhD degree programme. Joint degree or Dual degree programme is a unique programme through which the scholar will obtain two PhD degrees in same duration. He will be entitled for the stipend as per the NIA rules. AcSIR means the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research. The student is subject to the relevant rules and policies at both institutions throughout the duration of candidature.
Students given admission in the PhD Programme at National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA) will have the option to join the Joint PhD Degree Programme (JDP) from NIA and AcSIR (Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research). Preference will be given to the candidates who will opt for Joint PhD Degree Programme.
Home institute and Host Institute: For candidates getting admitted under JDP, NIA will be the Home institute and concerned CSIR Institute will be the Host institute.
Supervisors: Under this programme there will be two supervisors i.e. one from NIA (concerned department) and one from CSIR (concerned lab).
Thesis: Scholars under JDP will have to write one single thesis containing his/her research work done at both the sites.
Course work: Scholar who will be enrolled in NIA has to clear the course work from NIA as per the existing regulations.
Stipend: As per NIA rules and GoI orders.
Other Information about JDP:
A Candidate will be enrolled as required at both NIA and AcSIR (Primary and Secondary enrolment or vice versa, as the case may be) for the duration of the Programme and will spend a considerable time of research at the Home and Host Institutions, duration of which shall be mutually decided by the Joint Supervisors. The JDP can be completed in any discipline/interdisciplinary areas of mutual interest within relevant schools or faculties at NIA and AcSIR subject to the availability 3 of appropriate supervision, complementary research interest and strength of interdisciplinarity with respect to Ayush and Molecular/modern Medicine in broader sense and perspectives.
The interdisciplinary research domains would be identified jointly by AcSIR (through CSIR’s constituent institutes working in health domains, which include, CSIR-IIIM, CSIR-IHBT, CSIR-CDRI, CSIR-CIMAP, CSIRNBRI, CSIR-IITR, CSIR-NEIST, CSIR-IICB, CSIR-IGIB, CSIR-IMTECH, CSIR-NCL, CSIR-CCMB, CSIR IICT, CSIR CFTRI and CSIR-NIIST) and NIA. Other CSIR institutes that may include, but not limited to, are CSIR-CSIO, CSIR-CEERI, and CSIR-4PI, Bengaluru for integrating applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Quantum Computing and other emerging science and technological interventions for the service of the key mission and objectives under this Agreement. The PhD courses of study and their curricular content shall be jointly evolved by AcSIR (through the CSIR institutes) and NIA.

Seats for UGC-NET/JRF/SLET/AYUSH-NET/CSIR-NET qualified candidates in each speciality will be extra from the above mentioned seats and will be available depending upon the availability of the eligible guides in the concerned specialities.
NIA Jaipur PhD Ayurveda Admissions 2023 Eligibility Criteria
- MD/MS degree in Ayurveda is a concerned subject from an institute recognized by NCSIM.
- PG Degree must be complete at the closing date of the Application Form i.e. 25-04-2023.
- No candidate shall be eligible to register for the Ph.D. Program if he/she is already registered for any full-time Program in other University/Institution. In such case candidate gets selected then he/she will have to leave the ongoing PhD programme in other organization.
Foreign Nationals
- 02 Seats will be reserved for foreign nationals per session. The subject availability for PhD to foreign nationals will be on the basis of rotation.
- Foreign nationals will apply through ICCR in prescribed format. Applications received through ICCR will only be entertained.
- In any case seats reserved for foreign nationals in any subject remain vacant the same shall be filled on the basis of waiting list from the Indian applicants in the subject concerned from unreserved category.

NIA Jaipur PhD Ayurveda Admissions 2023 Application Process
- Application forms can be filled and submitted only online mode from website www.nia.nic.in .
- Read information brochure carefully before filling application form.
- Forms submitted in any other mode will not be considered and summarily rejected.
Exam Fee
- Exam fee for the entrance Exam is as under:
- For SC/ST and Persons with Disabilities(PwD) – Rs. 2500/-
- For all other categories (Unreserved, OBC etc.) – Rs. 3000/-
Entrance Exam
- A common entrance exam for admission to Phd. Programs in various subjects will be conducted for screening of the applicants at the National Institute of Ayurveda Jaipur.
- Entrance examination shall be conducted at National Institute of Ayurveda, Deemed University, Jaipur.
- Entrance Test shall consist of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).
- All the candidates except UGC-NET/JRF/SLET/AYUSH-NET/CSIR-NET qualified candidates applying for PhD programme shall appear for the Entrance examination conducted by the National Institute of Ayurveda, Deemed to be University (De-Novo). However the foreign nationals will not appear in this programme and a separate procedure through ICCR will be followed.
- The test shall consist of 100 multiple choice questions covering 60 subject specific questions with the competence of PG standard 25 questions from Research Methodology and Statistics, 10 questions from the general knowledge regarding AYUSH and 5 questions from basic working knowledge about computers.
- The duration of the entrance exam shall be 90 minutes.
- Each question shall consist of one mark. For each right answer one mark will be awarded whereas for each wrong answer half mark shall be deducted.
- Entrance test is just for screening and short listing of the candidates and final selection will be done after the interview.
Interview
- The shortlisted candidates (maximum 3 candidates for 1 Seat) on the basis of merit list will be called for interview.
- The list of shortlisted candidates for interview will be shared after the entrance examination on the website only (www.nia.nic.in) as no separate information will be circulated to individual candidate.
- 50% marks (45% for SC/ST Candidates) in the entrance exam are required to be eligible for appearing in the interview.
- Admission of UGC-NET/JRF/SLET/AYUH-NET/CSIR-NET qualified candidates will be through interview. Separate interview as per notified dates will be conducted by National Institute of Ayurveda, Deemed University , Jaipur.
- The candidate shortlisted for interview shall present their interest and research proposal through a presentation (Duration 8-10 minutes) before a duly constituted University committee of the respective faculty.
Syllabus for Entrance Exam
- Question paper shall be based on the syllabi prescribed by CCIM for Research Methodology in MD/MS Ayurveda program and for the Subject concerned under which the candidate has applied for Ph.D. program.
- Question shall be covering the recent updates in AYUSH and the subject concerned.
- Basic Working knowledge of the Information technology.
Selection Process for UGC-NET/ JRF/SLET/AYUSH –NET/CSIR-NET Qualified Candidates
- AYUSH – NET– An interview shall be conducted by National Institute of Ayurveda, on notified dates for AYUSH –NET qualified candidates who have been awarded SRF by research councils of ministry of AYUSH. In case applications more than the available guides in any subject will be received, the admission will be given on the basis of interview and shall be decided by the committee framed for the interview.
- Biomedical Sciences/Life Sciences – For streams other than AYUSH as mentioned in AYUSH PH.D. Fellowship scheme 2018, eligible candidates who have qualified a National Eligibility Test like CSIR- UGC NET for JRF and LS (NET) DBT –JRF in Bio technology; Bio Technology Eligibility Test (BET); etc, If willing to undertake research on AYUSH related projects can also apply through AYUSH research councils in prescribed application form. Their fellowship will be considered after receiving clearance from the respective AYUSH council.
- Only those candidates shall be eligible for Ph.D. registration whose fellowship is within the validity period notified by the respective councils / bodies conducting those qualifying examinations.
- The candidate appearing in the interview shall have to present their interest and research proposal through a presentation (Duration 8-10 minutes) before a duly constituted university PhD registration committee of the respective faculty.
- The interview will also consider following aspects.
- To evaluate the research aptitude of the applicants.
- The candidate possesses the competence for the proposed research.
- The research work can be suitably undertaken at the Institution /College.
- The proposed area of research can contribute to new/additional knowledge.
Scholarship/Stipend
- Students admitted through entrance test shall receive monthly stipend as per the NIA Rules and GOI orders.
- Candidates selected from UGC-NET/JRF/SLET/AYUSH-NET/CSIR-NET/CCRAS, Fellowship will not be paid any stipend from the institute. They will draw stipend as well as their research budget from the concerned department as per the guidelines issued by the bodies conducting those examinations.
- The stipend will be paid to the registered candidate under fellowship scheme according to terms and conditions laid down under AYUSH PhD Fellowship scheme 2018.
- Research Grant as received from the respective council will be issued to the registered candidate according to the terms and conditions as mentioned in AYUSH PhD Fellowship scheme 2018.
- Central/State Government sponsored or selected candidates will draw their salary from their concerned Central/State Government. National Institute of Ayurveda, will not pay any monthly stipend to such candidates.
