Modes of the PhD Programme

Full-time

Candidates under Full-time Ph.D. Programme have to work on regular basis in the department till the submission of the thesis.

Part-time

Candidates under Part time Ph.D. Programme shall be undertaken by In-Service (Regular Full time service) /Professional Candidates.

FIP/QIP Programme

A teacher fellow (On FIP/QIP Programme) shall work in the Department/Research Centre during the period of Fellowship on a regular basis.

Karnatak University PhD Admission 2023 Eligibility Criteria

Postgraduate Degree from a recognized University including foreign candidates (sponsored by their Embassies) and sponsored candidates with at least 55% marks (50% for ST/SC/ Cat-I/Physically challenged candidates) shall be eligible to apply for the PhD Program.

The minimum marks shall be 50% (45% for ST/SC/ Cat-I/) in case of candidates appointed on regular basis prior to 31 March, 1992 as teachers, Physical Education personnel and Librarians in Colleges and University Departments, provided they (employees) are continuing in service at the time of submission of application for registration

Application Process for Karnatak University PhD Admission 2023

Download Application form and the Bank challan from the website of Karnatak University
Duly filled-in application form along with all required documents shall be submitted to the chairman of the concerned PG Department at K.U. Dharwad.
Pay the Application Fee online using SBI Collect.

Karnatak University PhD Entrance Test

All the candidates possessing the minimum eligibility criteria shall appear for the Entrance Test.

Following Candidates shall be exempted from the Entrance Test –

Govt. Sponsored foreign candidates.
Candidates having qualified the GATE/ UGC/UGC-CSIR JRF/ NET/SLET (Karnataka)/ GRE /M Phil (Admitted through an Entrance Test). If they are willing to appear for the Entrance test should apply separately.

Entrance Test Pattern

Number of Questions	100 questions, each of 1 mark, 50% from Research Methodology, 50% from the cognate/core subjects.
Maximum Marks	100 marks
Duration of Entrance Test	120 minutes
Nature of Questions	Multiple Choice Questions
Syllabus for Entrance Test	Research Methodology, Syllabus of Cognate/Core subjects of the PG Department
Venue of Entrance Test	Exam Section and Dr. R.C. Hiremath Institute of Kannada Studies, Karnatak University, Dharwad.

Preparation of Merit List

The Government sponsored foreign candidates, candidates who have cleared the UGC-JRF/UGC-CSIR-JRF/GATE/GRE/NET/SLET(Karnataka)/ M.Phil (Admitted through an Entrance Test) shall be placed first in the Consolidated Merit List based on (Merit) their percentage of marks secured by them at their qualifying (MA/M.Sc./M.Com etc.) examination.

Candidate has to secure a minimum of 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/Cat-I/Differently abled Candidates) in the Entrance Test. Merit list of the candidates shall be prepared on the basis of the marks obtained in entrance test and in the qualifying examination in the ratio of 50:50.

Candidates listed in the Merit Lists shall be considered for the present declared vacancies notified.

The Candidates shortlisted in the merit list have to attend the Interview.
