Eligibility Criteria for JIS University Kolkata PhD Admission 2022-23

• Master’s degree with minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 6.0 on a 10-point scale, or 60% marks for the General and OBC category.
• For SC / ST or PWD candidates, the minimum CGPA requirements may be relaxed to 5.50 on a 10-point scale or to 55% marks.
• Post Graduate Degree in Basic Science with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency (approved, recognized or authorized by an authority for this purpose).
• Post Graduate Degree in Basic Science Or Graduate/Post Graduate Degree in Professional Course selected through a process described through any one of the following:
• Scholars who are selected through National Eligibility Tests-UGC NET including lectureship (Assistant Professorship) and GATE.
• The selection process through National Level Examinations conducted by MHRD and its Agencies and Institutes such as UGC/IIT/IISc/IISER etc.

Additional Information to In-Service External Research Scholar and Part-Time Research Scholar

• At the time of registration, the candidates should have at least two years’ experience in a Government / Semi-Government organization/Public and Private Sector Undertaking, AICTE / UGC recognized educational institute, or a registered company.
• They should have permission from the employer for pursuing the Ph.D. program with adequate leave of absence to complete the course work requirements. This requirement of leave of absence is waived off for candidates working within 100 km of the institute.
• Candidates in Part-Time In-Service Internal Research Scholar should, in addition, be regular employees of the institute.

JIS University Kolkata PhD Admission 2022-23 Application Procedure

• A candidate desirous of admission must apply to the University in a prescribed form. Along with the application a candidate must submit..
  • Self-attested photocopies of all educational qualifications, and four copies of Photograph.
  • No candidate shall be eligible to apply for the program/ course if he/she is already registered for any full-time program of study of this University or in any other University/Institution.
• If employed, he/she must submit:
  • Certificate of Employment
  • No objection certificate from the current employer

JIS University Kolkata PhD Admission Procedure

PhD enrolment will take place by fulfilling the following conditions:

• A candidate who has cleared M.Phil /NET /GATE/ SLET/ SET may be taken as a Ph.D. candidate without admission test. However, he /she will have to appear in the interview.
• All other candidates will be required to appear in the admission test followed by interview. PhD enrollment will take place after a candidate duly qualifies a 3-tier admission process

Admission Process

Every candidate will have to go through a 3-tier admission process:

1. Application Process
2. The candidate will have to appear for an Entrance Test for admission to the Ph.D. program, and secure a minimum of 50%. The syllabus of the Entrance Test shall consist of 50% of Research Methodology and 50% subject specific.
3. The candidates shortlisted in the Entrance Test shall have to appear in an Interview conducted by experts in the respective field. The following aspects of the candidate’s suitability shall be evaluated in the interview:
   • The domain knowledge of the candidate.
   • Research work can be suitably undertaken by the candidate in the University.

JIS University Kolkata PhD Entrance Details

• The Entrance Test shall consist of one paper of 3 hours duration.
• The syllabus of the Entrance Test shall consist of 50% of Research Methodology and 50% subject specific.
• The question paper may contain combination of objective and subjective type questions.
• The University shall declare the results of the Entrance Test within 15 days of conduction of the Test.
• The eligibility shall be valid for one year from the date of the Entrance Test or till the next Test is conducted, whichever is earlier.
