Eligibility Criteria for IITRAM PhD Admission 2023-24 Autumn Semester

Engineering/Technology

Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology or equivalent degree with First Class* (55% marks for SC/ST) and Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology with First class* (55% marks for SC/ST).

Basic Sciences

Master’s degree in Science or Engineering or equivalent degree with First class* (55% marks for SC/ST) and Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering with First class* (55% marks for SC/ST)

Humanities and Social Sciences

• M. A. or equivalent degree in Humanities and Social Sciences subjects with 55%** marks for general category (50%* for SC/ST) OR
• Master’s degree in Commerce with 55% marks for general category (50%* for SC/ST) OR  Master’s degree in relevant subjects of Science with First class* for general category (55% for SC/ST)
• OR
• Candidate with two years of PGDM from recognized institutions will be considered for the research areas consistent with their academic background.

Note

*For deciding First Class, the student must fulfill one of the following condition:

1. A degree of university mentioning first class.
2. A minimum of 60% marks in final year.
3. A minimum of 60% aggregate of all years or as specified by the university.
4. A CPI of 6 (out of 10) or proportional requirements when scales are other than 10

For deciding 55%/ 50%*, the student must fulfill one of the following condition:

1. A minimum of 55% / 50% in final year.
2. A minimum of 55% / 50% aggregate of all years or as specified by the university.
3. A CPI of 5.5 (out of 10) / 5 (out of 10) or proportional requirements when scales
   are other than 10

Additional credentials (as applicable) are desirable

Any Research Fellowship from UGC-NET (including JRF) / UGC – CSIR NET (including JRF) / SLET / GATE / teacher fellowship holder or have passed M. Phil programme.

IITRAM PhD Admission 2023-24 Autumn Semester Application Process

• Candidates have to fill the Application Form Online available on the Institute website (www.iitram.ac.in)
• Read instructions carefully before filling application form.

Selection Procedure

• Admission is offered on the basis of performance in written test followed by an interview.
• The Entrance Test shall be qualifying with qualifying marks as mentioned below:
  • For Open category Candidates – 50%
  • For SC / ST Candidates – 40%
• The syllabus of the Entrance Test shall consist of 50% of research methodology and 50% subject specific. The Entrance Test shall be conducted at IITRAM.
• The Departmental Research Committee will shortlist the candidates for written test for Ph. D. admission.
• Merely satisfying the eligibility criteria do not guarantee being called for written test / interview.
• Further, candidates fulfilling any one of the following requirements shall be exempted from written test and will be called directly for the interview:
  • Any Research Fellowship from UGC-NET (including JRF) / UGC – CSIR NET (including JRF) / SLET / GATE / teacher fellowship holder or have passed M. Phil programme.
• The candidates shortlisted for the Interview are required to give a brief presentation on any topic of their research interest.
• No TA / DA shall be given to the candidates attending the written test and/or interview.
• Documents will be physically verified on the day of interview.
