About GATE Exam
GATE or The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering and science for admission into the Master’s Program and Recruitment by some Public Sector Companies.
Every year GATE Exam is conducted jointly by either of the IISc Bangalore, IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, and IIT Roorkee on a rotational basis on behalf of the National Coordination Board – GATE, The Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India.

Application form for GATE 2023 will be available from 30 August 2022 to 30 September 2022.

- IIT Kanpur is the organising institute for GATE 2023.
- GATE 2023 will be conducted on 29 subjects
- GATE will be a Fully Computer Based Test (CBT)

A candidate is allowed to appear either in ONE or UP TO TWO papers of the GATE 2023 examination. However, a candidate is only allowed to select the second paper from the pre-defined Two Paper Combination list.

Candidates opting to appear in TWO subject papers must have a primary choice of paper as their default choice. The second choice of paper has to be chosen from the allowed combinations given in the Table above.
Also note that the examination centre of a candidate for the second paper may be different (but in the same city) from that for the first paper due to the infrastructure and scheduling constraints.
GATE 2023 Eligibility Criteria
The candidates who possess the following criteria are eligible to appear in GATE.
Educational Qualification
A candidate who is currently studying in the 3rd or higher years of any undergraduate degree program OR has already completed any government approved degree program in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Science/ Commerce/ Arts is eligible for appearing in the GATE 2023 exam.
Some of the Professional Societies/Institutions, which conduct examination in various fields of engineering, are as follows.
- The Institution of Engineers (India) (IE)
- The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)
- The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE)
- The Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI)
- The Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers, including Polymer and Environmental Group (IIChemE)
- The Indian Institute of Metals (IIM)
- The Indian Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIIE)
However, the candidates who possess certification from any of the professional societies must ensure that those examinations conducted by the societies are approved by MoE/ AICTE/ UGC/ UPSC as equivalent to B.E./ B.Tech./ B.Arch./ B.Planning., etc*.
Candidates who have obtained/are pursuing their qualifying degree from countries other than India: Must be currently in the 3rd or higher years or completed their Bachelor’s degree (duration: at least 3 years) in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Science/ Arts/ Commerce.
Details of eligibility criteria are given in below. However, any candidate fulfilling the above-mentioned criteria is eligible to appear for GATE 2023.
Note 1 : If a candidate is pursuing any higher degree or has already obtained a degree higher than that mentioned in the Table below the candidate will be allowed to appear for GATE 2023 examination.
Note 2 : The candidates with B.Sc./ B.A./ B.Com. degrees (3-year program) desirous to seek admission for masters programs in IITs may refer to JAM-2023 Examination.

Age Limit
There is no age limit defined to apply for the GATE exam.
GATE 2023 Application Process
GATE registration 2023 will be accepted online only through the GOAPS portal from 30 August 2022.
A candidate appearing in ONE or TWO Papers should fill ONLY ONE application form. In case of multiple applications, only one will be accepted and remaining applications will be rejected without any refund for the paid fee.

- The GATE Exam comprises both Multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions.
- There is a negative marking for the multiple-choice questions while no marks will be deducted for the numerical answer type questions.

GATE Admit Card 2023
The GATE organizing authority will issue the GATE 2023 admit card on 03 Jan 2023.
To download your GATE admit card you need GOAPS Enrollment ID and password.
Make sure you carry your admit card at the exam hall, without the admit card the entry to the exam hall is strictly prohibited.

- Login by Entering the enrollment number and password.
- Click on the GATE admit card download link.
- Save it and take a printout to be carried while appearing for the exam.

To check your result, you need login credentials (Registration No/Email ID).
GATE 2023 Score Card
If you qualify for the GATE 2023 exam, you will be able to download your GATE score card from the official GATE website from 21st March 2023.
Please note that the eligibility of your GATE scorecard is Three (3) years from the date of the GATE result.
