Eligibility Criteria for Central University of Punjab PhD Admission 2022-23 (July)
- The applicant should have a Master’s degree in the relevant subject with minimum of 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC/PWD) as detailed above for each programme.
- Candidate must have qualified CSIR-NET/UGC-NET/ ASRB-NET, ICMR-JRF, GATE, GPAT, DBT-BET/JEST (Physics) with existing validity and must have some financial assistance such as UGC/CSIR/ICMR/DBT-JRF, financial assistance from Govt. agencies {Like Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship (RGNF), Maulana Azad National Fellowship (MANF) etc.} / Sponsored Research Fellowship or working in CUPB projects. They have to apply in the CUPB Ph.D. admission portal and appear in interview.
- The existing eligibility conditions of having fellowship for admission in the Ph.D. Programmes will not be insisted upon in those subjects for which NET is not conducted either by UGC or CSIR. These subjects include Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacology and Computer Science & Technology. However, for admission in Ph.D. programmes of these disciplines, the candidates must have qualified GPAT/GATE not more than four years (including the time period spent in acquiring M.Tech./M.Pharm degree) preceding the date of admission in the Ph.D. program. The fellowship may be given to the candidates selected for Ph.D. admission in these programmes subject to the sanction of funds and approval by UGC.
- The candidates who are eligible to apply for DST INSPIRE Fellowship (Level II) will be allowed admission in the Ph.D. Programme, subject to submission of an affidavit stating that in case they fail to get INSPIRE Fellowship their Ph.D. admission shall stand cancelled. However, the University shall take semester/admission fee from such candidates. They will be allowed to take Ph.D. course work in the respective Department along with other regular students.
- The University may provide provisional registration to the candidates not having financial assistance with a validity of one year for Applying for External Financial Assistance from Governmental Bodies/PSUs for admission to Ph.D. programme (as per the University rules regulations/policy). If a candidate fails to get Financial Assistance within one year the Ph.D. provisional registration shall automatically stand cancelled.

- Fix weightage for JRF qualification – 70 marks
- Interview – 30 marks
For CSIR/ UGC/ASRB-NET/GATE/GPAT/DBT-BET/JEST (Physics) (without JRF) Qualified Candidates
- Fix weightage for NET/GATE/ DBT-BET/ GPAT/JEST (Physics) qualification: 50 Marks
- Percentage of Marks obtained in NET/GATE/ DBT-BET/ GPAT/JEST (Physics) (20% weightage)- 20 Marks
- Interview: 30 Marks
Category-II. All other Candidates not exempted from the Entrance Test:
- University Entrance Test (70% weightage): 70 Marks
- Interview: 30 Marks
Admission Criteria
- The candidates has to appear in interview and merit list will be prepared on the basis of the evaluation criteria given above.
- The Interview will be conducted at the level of Department.
- Preference for interview will be given to JRF candidates. NET candidates will be called for interview only in case there are insufficient number of JRF candidates available against advertised seats, for interviews.

Eligibility Criteria for Central University of Punjab PhD Admission 2021
- Master’s degree in a relevant subject with atleast 60% marks (55% for OBC/SC/ST/ PWD).
- Candidate must have qualified CSIR-NET/UGC-NET/ ASRB-NET, ICMR-JRF, GATE, GPAT, DBT-BET/JEST (Physics) with existing validity and must have some financial assistance such as CSIR/UGC/ ICMR/DBT-JRF/RGNF/MANF / Industrial Fellowship or working in CUP projects.
- The valid UGC/CSIR/ASRB-NET, ICMR-JRF, GATE, GPAT, DBT-BET & JEST (Physics), qualified candidates will be exempted from test, however, they have to apply in the CUPB Ph.D. admission portal and appear for the interview.
- Only those Non-NET candidates, who have some financial assistance/fellowship from Govt. agencies/Research Projects/ Sponsored Research shall apply for the Ph.D. Entrance Test in the Central University of Punjab. For admission to Ph.D. programmes, the candidates working in Research Projects with fellowship and those having Financial Assistance from Govt. of India/RGNF/MANF/etc./Sponsored Research Fellowship (as per the University Guidelines) are required to pass in the written Entrance Test as well as the Interview for Ph.D. The candidate must have minimum 02 years of fellowship.

Evaluation of Performance
The performance of the candidate will be evaluated as the following
Category-I Candidates exempted from Entrance Test
For CSIR/ UGC/ ICMR/ DBT-JRF Qualified Candidates
- Fix weightage for JRF qualification – 70 marks
- Interview – 30 marks
For CSIR/ UGC/ASRB-NET/GATE/GPAT/DBT-BET/JEST (Physics) (without JRF) Qualified Candidates with Financial Assistance
- Fix weightage for NET/GATE/ DBT-BET/ GPAT/JEST (Physics) qualification: 50 Marks
- Percentage of Marks obtained in NET/GATE/ DBT-BET/ GPAT/JEST (Physics) (20% weightage)- 20 Marks
- Interview: 30 Marks
Category-II All other Candidates not exempted from the Entrance Test
- University Entrance Test (70% weightage): 70 Marks
- Interview: 30 Marks

- The candidates has to appear in interview and merit list will be prepared on the basis of the evaluation criteria given above.
- The Interview will be conducted at the level of Department by the HOD along with 02 Senior Faculty members.

Entrance Test Details
Test Centre
Entrance test will be computer based and will be conducted at Central University of Punjab, Village
Ghudda, District Bathinda.
Pattern
The question paper will comprise of 70 multiple choice questions of one mark each.
Part A will be of 20 questions of general aptitude, reasoning and awareness.
Part B will be of 50 questions of subject specialization.
The time for the exam will be 75 minutes
Syllabus
The question papers for the entrance test will be as per UGC/CSIR NET/GATE/GPAT syllabi.
Cutoff Marks
The cut-off marks to qualify the entrance test will be 50% {45% for SC/ST/OBC(NCL)/PWD}.
