Cotton University Guwahati PhD Admission 2023 (July) Eligibility Criteria

Master’s degree or equivalent from a UGC recognized University with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade, in a subject related to the Ph.D. discipline where applying.

Relaxation of 5% of marks or an equivalent grade shall be applicable to candidates belonging to ST/ SC/ OBC/ Differently-Abled and such other categories as per rules of Government of Assam.

Selection Process

• Selections will be via MCQ/OMR based Entrance Test of 70 marks followed by Viva-voce of 30 marks, to be held separately for each Department/Discipline.
• The minimum qualifying marks in the Written Test is 35 for general category and 32 for reserved category candidates.
• Final selection will be in order of merit based on the total of the marks obtained in the Written Test and Viva-voce.
• Applicants having qualified for national-level scholarships such as UGC JRF/CSIR JRF, GATE/CEED and similar National level tests may be allowed to appear in the viva-voce/interview irrespective of their performance in the Entrance Test and in their cases the selection will be on the basis of viva-voce only..
• Candidates who had cleared NET/SLET in the related discipline within a period of 2 years preceding the date of this notification may be eligible for a relaxation of up to a maximum of 5% in minimum qualifying marks in the Written Exam.

Entrance Exam Pattern

The entrance examination shall be of 70 marks.

There will be negative marking equivalent to 25% of what is awarded for a correct answer.

The Entrance Test syllabus shall consist of 50% of research methodology and 50% shall be subject specific. Questions on research methodology may also include those on common pre-requisite knowledge required for research in the concerned subject/discipline.

The questions will be generally based on the PG syllabi of Cotton University and the UGC model syllabi of concerned subjects.
