Eligibility Criteria
- Master’s degree with minimum 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed.
- A relaxation of 5% mark or an equivalent grade for those belonging to ST/ SC/ EBC/ OBC/ Differently-abled categories.
- A candidate shall ordinarily be permitted to pursue research for the Ph.D. degree in the subject in which he/she holds Master’s degree.
Exemptions from the written test of PhD Admission Test (PAT) – 2021
- Candidates having secured grants for research such as fellowship/scholarship/Associateship/ etc. by qualifying CSIR-NET/ UGC-NET/ GATE/ MHRD Scholarships/ Teacher Fellowship/ DST-INSPIRE/ DBT/ ICMR/ ICAR/ CSSIR, ICHR etc.
- Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor who have been appointed in the teaching departments or the University or a constituent college of the University who have completed their probation successfully with an experience of at least two years of uninterrupted service would be considered under this category. Teachers appointed in self-finance courses will not be exempted from the test.
- Non-teaching employees of the University, who are holding substantive appointment for more than five years having Master’s degree in the subject concerned with minimum 55% marks in, and with at least two research papers published in any reputed refereed journal or journals identified by the UGC would be considered under this category
- Candidates, who are exempted from PAT 2021, are also required to apply with requisite Fee.

Application Procedure
- Duly filled in application may be submitted online to the University Management Information System (UMIS) of B.N.M.U.
- Read instructions before filling application form.
- No application will be accepted after the due date. Incomplete application will be rejected.

Selection Procedure
There would be two streams of applicant
- PAT Appearing
- PAT Exempted
Final selection of both categories of candidates in the PhD programme would be based on the performance of candidates in the interview as well as on the basis of marks obtained in PAT and NET examination respectively.
BNMU Bihar PhD Admission Test (PAT) 2021 Details
PAT 2021 Written Test Pattern
There will be two papers of 100 marks each
Paper –I (1 hour) | 100 marks will consist of 50 multiple-choice questions on qualitative teaching and research aptitude. |
Paper –II (2 hour) | 100 marks will be the Essay Type/Subjective based on syllabus (excluding elective papers) of the PG courses of the respective subject of the B. N. Mandal University, Madhepura, Bihar. |
Minimum Qualifying Marks for written test
For General candidates | 50% aggregate marks |
For Reserved category candidates | 45% aggregate marks |
Merit List Preparation
- The subject wise merit list will be prepared on a scale of 100 including marks in Master Degree; weightage on PAT/NET/BET/JRF and Interview as mentioned in the following Table i.e. maximum weightage on marks obtained in Master’s Degree Programme as 70, plus maximum weighting on PAT/NET/JRF as 10, plus Interview of 20 marks.
- Candidates will be selected following the prescribed reservation rules of Bihar Government.

** 10 Marks will be given to the Teachers and Non-Teaching employees (having more than three years’ experience) as given to JRF
The selection of the candidate will be on the basis of marks obtained
in Written Test and Merit List including Interview combined together
as mentioned above the Table.
