BITS Pilani PhD Admission 2022-23 1st Sem Eligibility Criteria

  • M.Tech./M.E./ MBA/ M.Pharm./ M.Phil. or an equivalent Degree with at least 60% marks in aggregate in the qualifying examination.
  • B.E./ M.Sc./ B.Pharm. or an equivalent degree with at least 60% marks in aggregate in the qualifying examination,
  • M.A. degree with a minimum of 55% aggregate for Humanities and Social Sciences
  • In addition to these departments may set specific criteria for shortlisting.

  • Candidates are required to give preferences of the campus or campuses while filling the application form online.

BITS Pilani PhD Admission 2022-23 1st Sem Selection Process

Selection for PhD Admission will be based on Written Test and Interview.

Shortlisted candidates will have to appear for an admission test, which may comprise of a written exam and/or interview

Written Test

Shortlisted Candidates have to appear in written test. Based on the test results, there may be shortlisting of candidates for Interview.

For Biological Sciences/ Chemistry/ Mathematics/ Physics Department

Candidates will have to write two tests.

  • Test-I will be common to all disciplines
  • Test-II will be discipline-specific.

The details of the tests are as follows:

Test-I30 MCQ from General Science, Quantitative Reasoning & Analysis, and Research Aptitude.
Test-II70 MCQ from covering the prescribed syllabus
Marking SchemeFor each correct answer : 2 marks
Negative Marking : 0.5 marks for each wrong answer

Candidates with M.E. / M.Phil. / M.Tech. or with National level fellowships like CSIR NET-JRF, UGC NET-JRF, DBT-JRF etc. are exempted from taking the above test.

For Humanities & Social Sciences/Economics Department

Candidates will have to write two tests.

  • Test-I will be common to both disciplines
  • Test-II will be discipline-specific.
Test-I50 MCQ from Reading Comprehension (2 Passages), Logical Reasoning, Analytical Reasoning, and General Awareness.
Test-IIdiscipline specific and subjective in nature

Candidates with a M.Phil. degree or with fellowships like CSIR NET-JRF, UGC NET-JRF, DBT-JRF etc. are exempted from the above test.

Department of Management

Candidates shortlisted will be required to take a written test of duration 1 hr.

The nature of the written test will be application based in the areas of general management to test basic research aptitude, technical knowledge and research orientation.

Financial Assistance

Students admitted into the Full-time PhD programme are eligible to be considered for fellowship of Rs. 28,000 or Rs. 31,000 per month based on their qualifications.

Candidate admitted as full time student has to undertake 8 to 10 hours (per week) of work as assigned to her/him by the Institute.
