IGNOU PhD Admission 2024 Eligibility Criteria

• Candidates who have completed: 1-year/2-semester master’s degree programme after a 4- year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year/6 semesters bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed. or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.
• A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
• Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.

Steps to Apply

1. You need to register first, before filling of the online entrance application form.
2. The following instructions need to be followed for Registration in the beginning.
   1. Click on the button NEW REGISTRTION that appears in the applicant login area and fill the required registration details.
   2. Fill in the UserName and password in the appropriate columns correctly.
   3. Remember, while choosing your UserName it must be in between 8 to 16 characters.
   4. While choosing your password it must be alphanumeric and between 8 to 16 characters long.
   5. After filling the mandatory information click the “SUBMIT” button.
   6. Your username will be instantly sent to you via e-mail and SMS.
3. Remember your Username and Password for subsequent login.
4. If you have already registered i.e you are an existing user click the “LOGIN” button.
5. Before proceeding for filling the online application form, you must have the following:-
   1. Scanned passport size Photograph (less than 100 KB)
   2. Scanned Signature (less than 100 KB)
6. Fee can be paid by following methods:
   • Credit Card (Master/Visa)
   • Debit Card (Master/Visa/Rupay)
   • Net Banking
7. Note:It is suggested to scan documents from your originals. Once you have uploaded the document, click the next button you will get the further information related to online application which you need to fill up.
8. After the final submission of online application form, download the filled in application form, take the printout and enclose the hardcopies/photocopies of all the documents and certificates as mentioned in the student handbook and prospectus to be submitted during counseling for final admission.

IGNOU PhD Admission 2024 Selection Process

• Candidates awarded with fellowship/scholarship in UGC-NET/UGC- CSIR NET/GATE/CEED and similar National level tests, as per the validity specified by the regulatory bodies, shall be exempted from Entrance Test and their selection will be based on interview. These candidates shall be considered as Category- A. Such candidates have to upload their valid fellowship award letter from the concerned implementing / awarding agency.
• All other Candidates except mentioned above are mandatorily required to appear in Ph.D Entrance test. These candidates shall be considered as Category- B.
• For Category A Candidates, interview shall carry 100% weightage. All eligible candidates from Category A will be called for the interview.
• For Category B Candidates, the Entrance Test shall carry a weightage of 70% and 30% weightage shall be given to the interview. Those who secure at least 50% marks in the Entrance Test (45% marks in case of SC/ST/OBC (Non Creamy layers) / Differently abled persons and EWS) will be shortlisted for the interview in order of merit subject to the maximum limit of five times of the available seats.

Interview

• Eligible candidates from Category A & Category B shall be called for interview before the Discipline Specific Admission committee. Information in this regard shall be uploaded on the University website. The respective disciplines/ schools will communicate regarding the requirement for the interview.
• The interview shall have three components comprising Research Methodology (40%) Subject domain (40%) and Communication Skills (20%).
• Admission to the Ph.D Degree Programmes is strictly on merit, based on the performance in the Entrance Test and Interview taken together.

Syllabus

• The question paper shall consist of 50% on research methodology and 50% on specific subject.

• Hall Tickets enabling the candidates to take the Entrance Test will also be displayed on IGNOU website.
• Candidates are required to download and print the same to appear in the Entrance Test.

Instructions:

• Those who secure 50% marks in the entrance test (General category) and (45% marks in the case of SC/ST/OBC(Non-Creamy layers)/EWS/ Differently-abled category PH) will be short listed for the Interview in order of merit subject to the maximum limit of five times of the available seats.
• The Entrance Test shall carry a weightage of seventy percent (70%) and thirty percent (30%) weightage shall be given to the interview.
• The Interview letters / schedule i.r.o the shortlisted candidates will be sent by the concerned Schools and uploaded on the official website of IGNOU (www.ignou.ac.in) after shortlisting.
• Note : Qualifying the Entrance Test does not entitle the candidate to claim admission in the Research Programme.
