HPU Shimla PhD Programs

Online applications for direct admission to Ph.D. Programme (without Entrance Test) for the session 2023-2024 in the University Teaching Departments/ Institutes are invited from the eligible candidates who have qualified UGC NET(JRF)/ UGC-CSIR(JRF) / NFSC, NFST/ Maulana Azad Fellowship /INSPIRE/ Sponsored by ICSSR/ DBT-JRF, ICMR or any other department of Govt. of India.

Eligibility Criteria

• Candidates for admission to the Ph.D. programme shall have a Master’s degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC -7 point scale (or equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.
• A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50% or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/Differently- abled and other categories of candidates as per the decisions of the university taken from time to time, or for those who had obtained their Master’s degree prior to 19th September, 1991.

Selection Process

Selection will be through counselling/interview.

Preferences in the Direct admission shall be as under: –

1. The first preference shall be given to UGC NET(JRF) and other equivalent fellowship holder candidates through National Level Test agency and the merit shall be drawn on the basis of Merit of P.G. Examinations.
2. For remaining seats, if available after (1), the admission in Ph.D. Programme shall be made among other fellowship holders like NFSC, NFST, Maulana etc., on the basis of merit of the P.G. examination.
3. For Direct Admission to Ph.D. Course under the INSPIRE, the candidate(s) must be INSPIRE JRF with final JRF) award letter.
4. The applicant is required to submit degree completion certificate at the time of Counselling/Interview.
