Eligibility Criteria for FRI Dehradun PhD Admission 2024 (Jan)

Application invited from only UGC-NET/UGC- CSIR NET/GATE/CEED and similar National level tests qualified candidates having fellowship.

  • A 1-year/2-semester master’s degree programme after a 4-year/8 semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2- year/4- semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.
  • A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS)and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
  • Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (noncreamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision ofthe Commission from time to time.
  • Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.

FRI Dehradun PhD Admission 2024 (Jan) Application Process

  • The candidates, who are interested for registration as research scholar for the Ph.D. Degree in Forestry in Forest Research Institute Deemed to be University Dehradun for the term of March 2024 are advised to apply in prescribed form latest by 10.12.2023 with a fee of Rs.1500/- through Bank Draft in favour of Registrar, FRI Deemed to be University payable at Dehradun. No application form will be entertained after the prescribed date.
  • Application Fee : Rs.1500/-

Selection Procedure

  • Final Merit List of selected candidates will be prepared as per merit on the basis of marks obtained in UGC-NET/UGC-CSIR NET/GATE/CEED and similar National level tests and in interview applying reservation policy, provided that for selection of candidates, a weightage of 70% to the UGC-NET/UGC-CSIR NET/GATE/CEED and similar National level tests score (The shall have to provide score-card of the marks obtained in the exam, percentile score shall not be considered) and 30% to the performance in the interview/viva-voce shall be given.

FRI Dehradun PhD Entrance Details

  • The syllabus of the Entrance Test shall consist of 50% of research methodology and 50% shall be subject specific.
  • The Entrance Test shall be conducted at the Centre(s) notified in advance (changes of Test Centres, if any, also to be notified well in advance) at the level of the University.
  • Students who have secured 50 % marks in the entrance test are eligible to be called for the interview. A relaxation of 5% marks will be allowed in the entrance examination for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/differently-abled category, Economically Weaker Section (EWS), and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
  • The candidate must apply through the Research Centre where he/she want to carry out his/her research work. The applicant will be considered only for the centre concerned through which the application has been forwarded. In exceptional cases, the Director FRI may consider the change of research centre subject to availability of the vacancy.
  • The candidates securing minimum 30% and above marks in Section-B will only be considered for qualifying Entrance Test.

Exam Pattern

  • The duration of Ph.D. Entrance Test shall be of 2.30 hours.
  • Each multiple choice question contains 1 number and there shall be no negative marking

Selection Procedure

  • The admission to the PhD Programme shall be on the basis of Entrance Test followed by an Interview of the qualified candidates in the entrance test.
  • The candidates who have qualified UGC-NET (including JRF)/UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF)/teacher fellowship holder will be allowed to appear for the interview directly without appearing in the written entrance test.
  • However, the candidates who have qualified GATE will also be allowed to appear for the interview directly without appearing in the written entrance test subject to securing of 50 normalized marks (out of 100) in case of General candidates and 45 normalized marks (out of 100) in case of SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/differently abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time, failing which they shall have to appear in the Entrance Test. However, such candidates will have to apply as per the procedure along with other candidates. They will have to provide marks-sheet of above exams along with their application form.
  • The UGC/CSIR/GATE/NET exam should have been cleared by the applicant during previous two years from the last date of submission of the form in the University.
  • Provided that for selection of candidates, a weightage of 70% to the NET/GATE score and 30% to the performance in the interview/viva-voce shall be given.
  • However, the NET/GATE qualified candidates may also appear in Entrance Test conducted by FRIDU if desire. In that case, the highest score shall be considered.

Entrance Test Details

The duration of Ph.D. Entrance Test shall be of 2.30 hours.

Each multiple choice question contains 1 number and there shall be no negative marking.
