PhD Admission Categories

Full-time Students: Preferably individuals who would like to pursue Ph.D. in-house, residing on campus.

Part-time Students: Preferably individuals working in organizations
providing basic facilities and environment for research.

Department Preference

BITS Pilani PhD Admission 2024-25 (Semester I) Eligibility Criteria

• M.Tech./M.E./ MBA/ M.Pharm./ M.Phil. or an equivalent Degree with at least 60% marks in aggregate in the qualifying examination.
• B.E./ M.Sc./ B.Pharm. or an equivalent degree with at least 60% marks in aggregate in the qualifying examination,
• M.A. degree with a minimum of 55% aggregate for Humanities and Social Sciences
• In addition to these departments may set specific criteria for shortlisting.
• For part-time applicants, a minimum of one year experience in the related field of study is required.

Application Process for BITS Pilani PhD Admissions 2024-25 (Semester I)

• Candidate has to apply online.
• Interested and eligible candidates should apply through the prescribed application form available online at https://bitsadmission.com/bitsphweb/index.aspx
• Hard copy of the application form is not required to be sent. Candidates are advised to take a printout of the filled form and retain it for further reference.
• Candidates are required to give preferences of the campus or campuses while filling the application form online.
• Please check department vacancies with regard to full and Part-time admission prior to filling the application form.

BITS Pilani PhD Admission 2024-25 (Semester I) Selection Process

• Departments may set specific admission criteria for shortlisting.
• Shortlisted candidates will have to appear for an admission test, which may comprise of a written exam and/or interview.

BITS Pilani PhD Admission Written Test Details

Shortlisted Candidates have to appear in written test. Based on the test results, there may be shortlisting of candidates for Interview.

Written Test Pattern

For Biological Sciences/ Chemistry/ Mathematics/ Physics Department

Candidates will have to write two tests.

• Test-I will be common to all disciplines
• Test-II will be discipline-specific.

The details of the tests are as follows:

Candidates with M.E. / M.Phil. / M.Tech. or with National level fellowships like CSIR NET-JRF, UGC NET-JRF, DBT-JRF etc. are exempted from taking the above test.

For Humanities & Social Sciences/Economics Department

Candidates will have to write two tests.

• Test-I will be common to both disciplines
• Test-II will be discipline-specific.

Candidates with a M.Phil. degree or with fellowships like CSIR NET-JRF, UGC NET-JRF, DBT-JRF etc. are exempted from the above test.

Department of Management

All Candidates shortlisted for the Department of Management, Pilani
campus, need to appear in the following tests:

Test I will be for the shortlisted candidates with a qualifying degree,
M.Com./M.A. (Psychology)/MSc. (Economics)/M.A. (Economics)/ MCA/MSc. (I.T.)/MSc. (Operations Research)/MSc. (Business Analytics).

Test II will be common for all shortlisted candidates.

Based on the test results, there may be shortlisting of candidates
for Interview.

Financial Assistance

• Full-time PhD students admitted into the PhD program are eligible to be considered for an Institute fellowship of ₹34,000 or ₹37,000 per month in the first year based on their qualifications at the time of admission. Students admitted with M.E./M.Tech./ M.Pharm./ MBA/M.Phil. or an equivalent Degree are eligible to receive an Institute fellowship of Rs. 37,000/-.
• Students admitted with M.Sc./B.E./B.Pharm. or an equivalent degree are eligible to receive an Institute fellowship of Rs. 34,000/-. These students on successful completion of coursework will receive Rs. 37,000/- from the Semester following the one in which the course work was completed.
• Higher fellowship may be made available in subsequent years. Consideration for Institute fellowship will be as per Institute norms. It will be obligatory on the part of every admitted Full time student to undertake 8 hours (per week) of work as assigned to him/her by the institute.
