Eligibility Criteria for Assam University PhD Admission 2023-24
- A 1-year/2-semester master’s degree programme in the same and allied subjects after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree programme in the same and allied subjects after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree in the same and allied subjects by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed.
- Or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in the respective country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.
- A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of UGC from time to time.
- Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. programme in the same or allied subject according to UGC regulations (Minimum Standard and procedure for award of M.Phil/PhD degrees, 2016 and subsequent amendments) with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the UGC from time to time.
- Candidates possessing a Degree considered equivalent to the M.Phil. Degree of an Indian Institution, from a Foreign Educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established, recognized or incorporated by law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country empowered for assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to Ph.D. programme.
IMPORTANT NOTE
The University does not ensure Non-NET fellowship to all intending claimants (fresh entrants). This is subject to availability of fund received from UGC. In view of constraint of fund, if any, Non-NET fellowship shall be awarded to the selected candidates on merit basis on the recommendation by the concerned department.

- Interested candidates may apply up to a maximum of two courses. However, separate applications should be submitted for each course with requisite application fees.
